Alex Hales termed England’s world record battering for Australia as a special day after hundreds from him and Jonny Bairstow handed Australia

Alex Hales termed England’s world record battering for Australia as a special day after hundreds from him and Jonny Bairstow handed Australia an embarrassing thrashing.

While Bairstow hit his sixth hundred, Hales overshadowed him with147 off 92 balls on his home ground. Eoin Morgan then slammed the fastest-ever England one-day half century off 21 deliveries.

“What a ground! We've had some great memories here as a team and today is another special day,” said Hales. “My plan was just to keep the momentum going. I know the ground like the back of my hand so it was nice to do something special," Hales was quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

Bairstow, speaking about his incredible form, added, "It's just a case of relaxing and watching the ball. Each opposition gives you different challenges, each bowler gives you different challenges. I mean, you look at Stanlake, at 6ft 9ins, compared to Richardson, who's smaller and skiddier. That's just the nature of bowlers around the world. It's just a case of maintaining your consistency, doing your same things day after day, and keep enjoying it, and that's what I'm doing at the moment.”
