The International Cricket Council has announced the schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be held in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14. Hosts England will take on South Africa at The Oval on 30 May. Defending champions Australia will kick off their title defence on 1 June against ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier champions Afghanistan with a day/night match in Bristol.

Pakistan, the current ICC Champions Trophy winners, will begin their campaign against the ICC World Twenty20 winners West Indies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on 31 May. India, who won the championship in 1983 and 2011, will play their opening match on 5 June against South Africa at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. The high-class India-Pakistan will be at Old Trafford in Manchester on 16 June.

The two semi-finals will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester and Edgbaston in Birmingham on 9 and 11 July. The big final will be played at Lord’s on 14 July. All the three knockout matches will have reserve days.

A total of 11 venues will be used for the tournament that will last 46 days. The tournament will be played in the round-robin format with each team playing each other once. After 45 matches, the top four teams will head to the semi-finals.
